I can't make a commitment based on supposition, even if I had it in my power to do much of anything beyond the Inquisition's sphere of influence.
[Obi-Wan is beginning, with an intuition honed by a decade of Anakin Skywalker's friendship, to assume that Thranduil is indeed planning to give them damned good reason to lock one or both of them up. He sighs, heavily; it seems somehow incongruous to be attempting to explain the political dispassion of the Jedi Order here, where so much of the foundation of that dispassion is utterly lacking.]
Neither do I. But, it's not a Jedi's place to... to overthrow ordinary governing practice. [Is a lie.] Regardless, I would like to consider us as friends.
I need very little from you, my friend. Take care to remember one thing.
[ truthfully, he doesn't expect to be caught for his machinations. if they come for him, it will be for an unintended slight or a thousand small things that mark him as proud and not in the least meek as they think the elven should be. if he offends where no normal man would take offense. ]
If the Inquisition should ever imprison me, know it is because I went willingly, at least at first. I cannot promise my willingness to stay in captivity if they intend to attempt to torture me or such along those lines.
I'm not sure I want to ask what you're implying. [If only because he knows that saying it aloud will make whatever's said unavoidable, in some sense.] I wouldn't expect anyone to sit placidly by while being threatened with torture.
Such tactics are as pointless as they are barbaric; no reasonable person would condone them, I'm sure.
[That's as close to an 'I'll back you up' as Obi-Wan is willing to go, at least outright.]
Is there such cause for concern? I can return to Skyhold, if I'm more needed there.
No need for implications; I will state it plainly. I am concerned the... novelty of what the Quendi are is wearing thin. Two years, five; it matters little. We are too different from what they know.
We will become inconvenient.
[ it's something. ]
Nothing. All is well. I have seen some unexpected cruelties. I do not like leaving these sorts of things to the last moment.
I suppose it's a blind-spot of mine. I come from a place with so diverse a population... I forget.
[There's bigotry enough, in the Galaxy far, far away, but rarely is it so systemic, or so inescapable; the sky is too wide, and too full of wealthy and powerful alien worlds for anything like Thedas' blanket hatred to flower. Or, so Obi-Wan thinks.
Realizing that he's let the silence go on for too long, Obi-Wan inhales, but can only offer a formless hm, of tentative agreement.]

I will do what is right, always.

Prudent of you.
